A suspect in the killing of Maltese anti-corruption journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia has confessed his guilt in court. That reports The Times of Malta. Vince Muscat’s lawyer informed the court that he admits to killing Galizia in 2017.
The two other suspects, brothers George and Alfred Degiorgio, insist that they are innocent. Muscat previously tried to be pardoned, but failed. Since then, he has been cooperating with the authorities in the investigation, in the hope of a reduced sentence. That now seems to have worked.
Galizia was murdered by car bomb in October 2017. At the time, the critical journalist was investigating government corruption and the ties between the government and wealthy business people.
Several ministers and the former prime minister have resigned after the assassination of Galizia.
More suspects in the picture
On Tuesday, three more suspects were arrested in the case. They are said to have delivered the bomb to Muscat and the Degiorgio brothers.
Businessman Yorgen Fenech is suspected of setting up the assassination attempt. Galizia often researched him. He was appointed by Melvin Theuma, who claims to be the intermediary between Fenech and the performers.
