CORONAVIRUS In the Czech Republic, they have several suspects of a South African mutation: Four near Slovakia

KORONAhoror in the Czech city: VIDEO Spreading at a huge speed, the virus kills even younger years

In a kindergarten in Brno, a suspicion of a South African mutation arose in two children and two teachers, said Ciupek. During the trip, a suspicion arose with a woman and a man from the Hradec Králové region and a woman from the South Moravian region, ČTK found out from credible sources. They were all in Zanzibar along with other people, returning in the first half of February.

“The children were asymptomatic as one teacher, the other teacher had mild symptoms,” said Ciupek. According to her, no one was abroad and they only move around Brno. In the nursery, a measure in the form of a closed class first applied, now the entire kindergarten is closed. “The results of dozens of other tests were negative,” stressed Ciupek.

The British mutation is almost worldwide

New coronavirus mutations are becoming a new current problem in the pandemic because they are more contagious than the common SARS-CoV-2 virus strain. This is especially the so-called British coronavirus mutation, which was first identified last autumn in Great Britain and has been confirmed to date by laboratories almost all over the world, including Slovakia. Other new mutations have been discovered by scientists in South Africa and Brazil.

South African mutation in more than 30 countries

The South African variant, referred to as 501.V2 or B.1.351, was first recorded last October in the Eastern Cape Province, which lies in the south of the country. Local authorities informed about the new mutation last December.

To date, the South African mutation has spread to more than 30 countries. The mutation has been reported in the US, Australia, Britain, Norway and Japan, for example, but has also occurred in some neighboring countries – Germany, is spreading in Tyrol, Austria, and last week was first reported by Poland near Suwalki in the north-east. According to most scientific estimates, it is about 50 percent more contagious than the basic variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Vaccine resistance

The biggest problem with this mutation is that, according to some studies, it is partially resistant to some vaccines. For example, South Africa has not started using a vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, and the country will start vaccinating with Johnson & Johnson. According to the South African authorities, the preparation of AstraZeneca has shown little effectiveness in the case of a local mutation in the virus. The South African authorities claimed that the product would not work well enough in the event of a mutation, but was rejected by the manufacturer, some countries, led by Britain and France, and by the World Health Organization (WHO). The South African tests were allegedly performed on too small a sample of people and took a short time.

South Africa is the most affected country in Africa by coronavirus infection. Since the beginning of the epidemic, 1.5 million people have been infected in the country, where about 60 million people live, and about 49,000 have died.
