Niagara Falls, as in previous years, was partially frozen. Residents and tourists who decided to go on a trip around one of the most famous waterfalls in the world, had the opportunity to admire the amazing spectacle of sun and snow. The web was flooded with photos and videos of landscapes as if from the land of ice.
Last week, the eastern regions of the United States struggled with a surge of frosty air. Record low temperature and a large snow cover paralyzed the everyday life of the inhabitants. According to the US National Weather Service, a 12-centimeter snow cover formed in Maine between February 19 and 20. The frost even caused part of Niagara Falls, which lies on the border between Canada and the United States, to freeze.
Frozen Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is a popular tourist attraction that attracts travelers from all over the world. Tourists want to see with their own eyes the enormous masses of Niagara River water that cascades from a height of about 50 meters.
One of the most famous waterfalls in the world in its winter version looks even more delightful. Numerous photos and videos of Niagara ice-bound have appeared on the web. Internet users compared this view to frames from Disney’s “Frozen” animation.
Partial freezing of Niagara Falls has happened in years past. In 2019, at the turn of December and January, when the temperature remained within -18 ° C for a long time, tourists and photographers visited the waterfall in crowds to see this wonderful spectacle with their own eyes.
In 2016, the temperature here dropped to -50 ° C and the frozen Niagara Falls prevented the operation of local hydropower plants. In 1890 it even happened that a huge floe blocked the flow of water and the waterfall ceased to exist for two days.
