Internet users in turmoil. A hunter recently bragged on social media about killing a giraffe in a South African park, notably posing with the animal’s heart.
This 32-year-old South African recounted having lived a dream weekend, offered by her husband to celebrate Valentine’s Day. For 1,700 euros, the couple were able to kill the giraffe in a “game park”.
She had dreamed for years of adding this animal to her hunting chart, which already counted more than 500 wild animals including lions, leopards and even elephants.

While the couple were originally scheduled to leave for a romantic weekend, their plans changed at the last minute when they were alerted to the possibility of slaughtering a giraffe. “My wonderful husband knew it was my dream and fully supported me […] I was like a child for two weeks, counting the days. Then I was overwhelmed with emotions, ”she explains on Facebook.
After killing the giraffe, the hunter did not hesitate to post the photos of her “trophy”. We see her posing proudly, especially weapon in hand, next to the dead animal.
The young woman, went even further, by posting a photo on which she poses with the heart of the animal. And to add in comment: “Have you ever wondered how big the heart of a giraffe is? I am in heaven with my BIG Valentine’s Day gift !! ”. She also kept the skin of the beast to make a carpet.
While her posts angered many netizens, the South African defended herself by claiming that the killing of the giraffe had given work to 11 people that day and had provided meat for many. inhabitants, reports the Daily Mirror. More broadly, she argued that hunting creates jobs in tourism and protects endangered species.
Arguments refuted by animal protection associations. “The claims made by trophy hunters that they care about wildlife conservation are very misleading. Trophy hunting is not a conservation tool and does not significantly contribute to local communities, ”Dr Mark Jones of the Born Free Foundation told the British newspaper.
“Someone who kills another sentient being, cuts out their heart and brags about it fits the definition of a sociopath. One day, trophy hunting will be listed as a sign of a psychiatric disorder, ”PETA also reacted.
For her part, the young woman multiplies on her Facebook page the posts against associations for the defense of animals, veganism …
