The Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States and the European Union emphasized the importance of relations between them and the depth of this relationship based on the common view, understanding and cooperation between the two parties towards regional and international issues.
This came in the meeting of His Excellency Dr. Nayef Falah Mubarak Al-Hajraf, Secretary-General of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf, with the ambassadors of the European Union countries accredited to Riyadh, which was held this morning, Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh.
During the meeting, His Excellency the Secretary-General stressed the fundamentals on which the march of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf is based, namely enhancing security and peace, respecting international law and the United Nations Charter, rejecting interference in the internal affairs of states and rejecting extremism, terrorism and violence.
He also stressed the contributions of the Cooperation Council with the international community in support of development efforts and the positive contribution to providing support and assistance to countries in need.
Al-Hajraf reviewed the Gulf-European relations, describing them as a relationship of trust and mutual respect, stressing the interest and desire that the Gulf Cooperation Council attaches to developing this relationship and strengthening it to serve the common interests of the two parties and advance them in all fields.
Al-Hajraf touched on the outputs of the Sultan Qaboos and Sheikh Sabah summit, which was hosted by the Al-Ula Governorate in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on January 5, 2021 AD, stressing that it is the beginning of a new phase in the march of the Cooperation Council, based on achievements and building for the future and facing challenges with firmness and strength.
Al-Hajraf emphasized the pivotal and important role that the Cooperation Council plays in promoting regional and international security and peace, noting that the region faces a number of challenges in Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and others, which require concerted efforts by the international community towards facing these challenges, appreciating the role of the European Union and its interaction with issues The region, stressing the keenness of the Cooperation Council to work with the European Union and strengthen its efforts.
Al-Hajraf touched on the situation in Yemen, reviewing the efforts of the Cooperation Council to support security and stability in Yemen and support the legitimate government through the Gulf initiative, the outcomes of the national dialogue and Security Council Resolution 2216, calling on the European Union and the international community to exert pressure on the Houthi terrorist group to engage in the peace process, and to stop the attack on Marib. He also stressed the importance of mobilizing international efforts to secure the humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people, appreciating the holding of the high-level conference on financial pledges for the humanitarian crisis, which will be held hypothetically on March 1, 2021.
Regarding the Iranian nuclear file, Al-Hajraf called for the necessity for the GCC to participate in any negotiations related to the security and stability of the region, affirming the GCC’s belief in security and stability and promoting development efforts in the region, calling on Iran to abandon its behavior in interfering in the internal affairs of countries and to stop destabilizing security and stability through Supporting terrorist groups.

Al-Hajraf stressed the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation and supporting the distinguished relations between the Cooperation Council and the European Union to serve security and stability, support development efforts, face challenges and seize common opportunities in all fields, appreciating and thanking the European Union ambassadors for their support and efforts to serve relations between the two parties.
