In Suriname, 1 COVID-19 contamination was registered in the past 24 hours after 52 tests. This is evident from the update of the figures on the official COVID-19 website of the Surinamese government on Monday evening, February 22.
On Monday, Minister of Health Ramadhin also announced the start of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign. This will start today, Tuesday 23 February 2021.
“We have divided our Surinamese society into a number of categories as is customary internationally,” said the minister. The minister emphasized that each category will first be completed before the next group is eligible for the vaccination.
A start is made first with the frontliners, namely the health workers who, according to the minister, are at the bedside of the COVID patients, as they are currently at the greatest risk of becoming infected with the virus.
Subsequently, an attempt will be made to reach every Surinamese by means of a large-scale information campaign. The government will indicate when and which group’s turn and how and where those activities will take place.
