Trump retaliates against the New York investigation: “Fascism, not justice” – International

Former US President Donald Trump retaliated on Monday against the investigation targeting him in New York State after the US Supreme Court refused to block prosecutors’ request to obtain his tax returns, reports The Hill.

“The Supreme Court should never have allowed this random investigation to take place, but they did,” he said in a statement.

“This has never happened to a President before, it is completely inspired by Democrats in a location of Democrats, the city and the state of New York, controlled by an enemy of mine, Governor Andrew Cuomo,” Donald Trump added.

Trump described the Mahnattan prosecutor’s office’s investigation into his business as a continuation of “the greatest witch-hunter in our country’s history,” referring to other investigations launched against him.

“I will continue to fight, as I have done for the past 5 years (even before I was elected), despite all the electoral crimes that have been committed against me,” the former Republican president said.

“We will win!” Trump concluded.

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to block a request from a New York state prosecutor to make Trump’s tax returns available to him as part of an investigation into his business, upholding the decision in lower courts.

The judges of the Supreme Court issued the decision without separate comments or opinions.

Democratic prosecutor Cyrus Vance Jr. has been trying to get Trump’s tax returns since 2019 when a jury sent a request to Mazars USA, the accounting firm used by the former Republican president.

The Manhattan prosecutor’s office is investigating payments made by Trump’s lawyers to two women who claim to have had an affair with him. One of the two women is the former adult actress “Stormy Daniels”.

Michael Cohen, Donald Trump’s former lawyer who has meanwhile been sentenced to prison for tax fraud and campaign finance violations, said the payments were made to keep women quiet about their adventures. they had with his client.

Vance’s office says the summons is also part of an investigation into possible economic crimes by the Trump Organization, the real estate company owned by the former president’s family.

Trump’s statement on Monday accused prosecutors of “hunting heads” among politicians and others close to politics.

“This is fascism, not justice – and that’s exactly what they want to do to me, only that the people of our country will not accept such a thing,” Trump said in a statement.
