Hariri had ended his visit to Doha, where he met Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and other officials, before heading to Abu Dhabi to meet Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed.
Arab Post was able to obtain “the details of what took place in the Hariri meeting with bin Zayed. Political sources familiar with the details of the meeting stated that Abu Dhabi decided to financially support Hariri to facilitate his private affairs related to his political and social institutions, in light of the Saudi abandonment of him.”
According to the source, Abu Dhabi offered to “become the seat of his family instead of Riyadh, which his family has lived in for 20 years, but Hariri did not respond to this offer positively or negatively.”
The source added, “Hariri – during the meeting – asked Mohammed bin Zayed about Saudi Arabia’s position on assigning him to form the government and the possibility of supporting his government, if it was formed during the next phase.
Bin Zayed confirmed to Hariri that “the Saudi leadership is following the Lebanese file through them (that is, the Emiratis) and through Cairo intensively, and that it is communicating with the French to find out where things have become.”
The source concludes by saying, “Bin Zayed emphasized to Hariri the adherence of Arab countries to clear conditions, which are that the government be an actual reflection of reform, and that no political party is given a majority of obstruction, which will establish the logic of victory for a team over the state’s internal and external decision.”
The meeting between bin Zayed and Hariri revealed a positive development in the relationship between Hariri and the UAE, after more than a year and a half of estrangement between them.
According to the source, “the positive development between the two parties contributed to the French administration, which succeeded in improving the relationship between Hariri and Abu Dhabi, until the UAE turned into a stopover for the Lebanese Prime Minister-designate in his regional tours.”
In Qatar, according to the sources, “Hariri’s meetings in Doha were positive, during which the latter heard Qatar’s readiness to help Lebanon.”
However, Doha stipulated that Hariri form a “mission” government that would set its sights on undertaking reforms that would restore international and Arab confidence in Lebanon.
Diplomatic sources said, “Hariri, who returned on Monday evening, February 22, 2021, from Abu Dhabi, received a call from the official in charge of the Lebanon file in the French administration, Patrick Dorrell, who wished Hariri to visit President Michel Aoun and to resume discussion with him about the government.”
Hariri responded by saying that he would visit the presidential palace at noon on Wednesday, February 24, but after he met Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and put him in the form of foreign contacts that included Qatar and the UAE.
The source confirms that Hariri’s next foreign destination will include Kuwait and Iraq, in addition to preparations being made for his visit to Germany, and the meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel at the beginning of next month, after which he will visit Britain to meet with Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
According to the sources, Germany and Britain were aspiring to convert the French initiative to a European initiative, but it collided with a French refusal, which aspires to re-impose its presence in Beirut.
The source reveals that there is a possible visit by a high-ranking Russian diplomat, envoy of President Vladimir Putin, to Lebanon next week, in an attempt by Moscow to heal the rift between President Michel Aoun and the president in charge of forming the government. Saad Hariri, after the relationship between the two men reached the point of estrangement, after the failure of all internal and external mediation to reconcile the two men.
The source asserts, “This delegate comes based on coordination between Moscow and Paris, and that the Russian position that the delegate will carry comes from the matter of advice and wishful thinking, to the public stance in support of Hariri in forming a” mission “government in which all parties are represented.
That is, Moscow is against excluding any political party from naming non-partisan ministers, provided that no one has the obstructing third in the government, because experiences in the past were the best evidence, that with the blocking third the government obstructs, and no decision or reform action can be taken, and thus the country sinks More in his crises.
