A happy event that turns into a drama. 28-year-old father-to-be died on Sunday after device used to reveal baby’s gender exploded, reports CNN.
The victim, Christopher Pekny, was planning a “gender reveal party” in Liberty, New York. He was making the device in question when it exploded at around 11:55 a.m. on Sunday, New York State Police said in a statement. Her brother, Michael Pekny, was injured by the device and taken to hospital. An investigation is underway to determine the causes of the incident.
Several fatal accidents in the past
The “gender reveal party”, in French “gender reveal party”, consists of revealing the sex of the baby with color codes: blue if it’s a boy, or pink if it’s a girl. Colors are often incorporated into exploding devices, such as giant balloons or confetti cannons, which sometimes cause fatal accidents.
Credited by the New York Times as being at the origin of these kinds of events, American blogger Jenna Karvunidis has since published several messages on social networks, urging Americans to “stop these stupid parties”. In 2008, explains CNN, she had not organized fireworks but had revealed the sex of her future baby, a girl, with the help of a cake, which when cut revealed a pink icing.
