Donald Trump was the first president of the United States in 40 years to not show his tax returns – although he had announced it during the 2016 election campaign. The fight against Trump for the disclosure of documents for 2011-2018 was undertaken in 2019 by New York prosecutor Cyrus Vance Jr. Now he has won an important victory. The testimony would shed new light on the former president’s property and the activities of his Trump Organization.
On Monday, the Supreme Court rejected Trump’s motion to stay the execution of the lower court’s decision of October 7, 2020. The decision paves the way for Vance to gain access to the ex-president’s tax statements. Quoted by Reuters, Trump described the Supreme Court ruling as “the continuation of the biggest witch hunt in the country’s history,” and accused New York City Democrats of spending their energy destroying a political opponent rather than fighting violent crimes. “It’s fascism, not justice,” added Trump.
The Trump investigation is progressing
Initially, an investigation led by Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. concerned the so-called “money for silence.” During the 2016 election campaign, porn actress Stormy Daniels was to receive them – through Trump’s then lawyer Michael Cohen. The woman claimed she had an affair with Trump.
The US president denied this and argued that the payments were a personal matter. The only problem is that the Trump Organization allegedly classified the transfer of 130,000. dollars to Cohen (who donated the money to Daniels) as a “legal service.” It would be against the law.
However, as Vance now reports, his investigation is much broader and already covers Trump’s possible financial, tax and insurance frauds.
The Supreme Court ruled that no one is above the law. Trump will have to take responsibility for his own dirty deeds for the first time
Cohen said on Monday in a statement cited by the Reuters agency. In an interview with MSNBC, he said, in turn, that Trump should start preparing a tailored prison suit, because “things are not looking good for him.”
