US ambassador impressed with Kosovo election results

The US Ambassador to Kosovo, Philip Cosnet, said tonight that he was impressed with the results of the early parliamentary elections in Kosovo and that he hoped that Kosovo had entered a wave where there would not be so many early elections.

“They seemed free, honest, safe in a safe and professional way. Of course, some investigations are ongoing and there are always lessons to be learned. “I already know Albina Kurti and Vjos Osmani well and I think it is clear that there is a great desire in Kosovo to give them the opportunity to form a government and lead the country, I think they have a vision and energy and it is a very exciting time for Kosovo,” he said. for TV7.

Asked to comment on Kurti’s statement that his dialogue with Serbia is in seventh place, Kosnet said he thinks his government welcomes the opportunity to have co-operation and partnership relations with the Kosovo government.

“The Biden administration has made this very clear, we are not talking only about Kosovo, but about all our partners for whom we want to have relations with respect and cooperation. Many of the priorities that Mr. Kurti is talking about, the fight against corruption, building the rule of law, creating economic opportunities, are the priorities of my government, in which the United States has invested heavily over the last 20 years. There is no doubt about that, “he said.

However, the ambassador adds that when Kurti says, okay, dialogue, foreign policy, we will leave it a little lower – “my experience is that the world is not waiting”.

“It’s a little difficult to report, so I wouldn’t go into too much detail on this issue,” Kosnet said.

“So, if we look at the broad strategic picture, I think that the basic goals of the United States towards Kosovo and the Balkans do not differ so much from one administration to another. What do we want? We want peace in the region, we want progress, we want the rule of law. These basic things do not change. Our overall goal is to see Kosovo become more complacent and to be honest, to become more equal partners for countries in the region, as well as for the United States, “said the American diplomat, adding that when it comes to specifics,” concrete points of what our policy will look like. So I don’t want to speculate. “

Asked about the ideas of a greater Albania and Serbia, Kosnet said that the vision of the United States for the Balkans is not a Greater Albania and a Greater Serbia.

The White House and the State Secretariat have an envoy for the Balkans, that is Matthew Palmer, Kosnet said when asked about the possibility of the new administration appointing a special envoy for dialogue issues Kosovo Serbia.

“We still do not know whether the White House will appoint a special presidential envoy for the region. “Secretary Blinken was also asked about this and he said that he was studying the matter,” he said.
