Dark clouds are beginning to pile up over Donald Trump’s plans to run in the 2024 presidential election.
When he is now forced to hand out his declarations, there may be political explosives.
Half a million dead Americans in covid-19 are a painful reminder of the ex-president’s greatest failure.
During his four years as president, Donald Trump appointed three judges to the Supreme Court. If he thought that they would in any way repay their appointments, the ex-president must be disappointed.
The Supreme Court ruled yesterday in total unanimity that Donald Trump must release his statements for eight of the last few years to a prosecutor in New York. He is investigating whether Trump has committed any crimes regarding payments to two former “photo models” in order to keep quiet about their sexual relationship with Donald Trump ahead of the 2016 election.
But the investigation was expanded and also deals with other suspected irregularities.
For a person who is considering whether to run in the next presidential election, the message is a difficult setback.

“Dark clouds are beginning to pile up over Donald Trump’s plans to run in the 2024 presidential election,” writes Wolfgang Hansson.
The declarations may contain political explosives that could seriously damage Donald Trump’s chances of winning in 2024 or even be named the Republican Party’s candidate. Although they will not be made public, the possibility of leaks is great.
Some revelations about the declarations were already made by the New York Times ahead of the November election. For example, that Trump only paid about 7,000 kronor in federal income tax during his first year as president. It seemed to have a limited impact on the electorate.
But the ongoing investigation can result in prosecution, trial and perhaps even imprisonment depending on the possible evidence that the prosecutor can present.
Hard to convince
HD’s decisions concern not only the declarations themselves but also tens of thousands of documents on which the declarations are based. It will probably take a long time to go through everything and in the meantime, the threat of prosecution will hang over Trump. Which makes it harder for him to convince Republicans that he deserves a chance to become president.
The Republican leadership wants to regain power in Congress in the midterm elections in two years and the presidential power in four. Despite his considerable popularity among a large group of voters, Trump is a high-risk project. The party would prefer to invest in a candidate who they believe has a good chance of beating Joe Biden or who will be the Democrats’ candidate in 2024. Risk of prosecution and imprisonment is not something you should carry in your luggage.
Trump has been beaten with beaks and claws to avoid handing out his declarations. This is the second time he went to HD in an attempt to keep them secret, despite the fact that before the 2016 election he promised to publish the declarations, like all previous presidential candidates.
The investigation can of course end with no prosecution being brought, but since the process is lengthy, it still risks damaging Trump’s chances.
Another factor that works in the same direction is yesterday’s announcement that half a million Americans have died of covid-19. Even if this tragic milestone was passed with Joe Biden in the White House, it is inevitable that it was Donald Trump who steered the ship until a month ago.
The United States not only leads by far in the total number of deaths in the world but is also among the highest in terms of population.
Did great damage
Anthony Fauci, Tegnell of the United States, who has so far avoided criticizing Trumo, is now sharply criticizing the former president for his handling of the pandemic. He believes that the United States would never have ended up in this situation if it were not for the politicization of how the pandemic would be fought.
“While infection control experts appealed to citizens to comply with the restrictions, we had a president who wanted to” liberate Virginia, liberate Michigan, “Fauci states. The lack of commitment on the part of senior management to do things based on science did great harm.

Fauci is still a respected figure in both political camps. That is why his criticism of Trump weighs extra heavily.
Most analyzes of the outcome of the election point to Trump’s failed handling of the pandemic as the biggest factor in his losing the election. This fact will continue to lie like a wet blanket over Trump if he tries to stand up again.
Maybe that’s why he’s delaying a message about his political future.
