Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has said he will not bow to any pressure. He made the remarks in a speech to members of Iran’s expert council on Monday evening.
Ayatollah Khamenei said his country would not deviate from its logical position on the nuclear program. Instead, 60 percent uranium will be enriched if necessary.
“We are committed to achieving the nuclear capabilities that the country needs,” he said. That is why our uranium enrichment level will not be limited to 20 but will be enriched as much as needed. For example, in nuclear propulsion technology or any other work, our uranium enrichment rate can be increased up to 70 percent.
Iran claims it has enriched uranium to a maximum of 20 levels so far. In the nuclear agreement signed in 2015, it was set at three and a half levels. But after the United States pulled out of the deal, Iran recently resumed enrichment to 20 levels. Nuclear weapons require 90 percent or more of uranium enrichment.
In a speech on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “Islam has a ban on making weapons that can kill civilians, including nuclear and chemical weapons.” We will abide by the restrictions to the letter.
Iran’s supreme leader also recalled that 220,000 people were killed in US nuclear attacks on two Japanese cities during World War II. “The genocide of innocent people stems from the brutal mentality of the West,” he said. But the Islamic Republic of Iran does not believe in this mentality.
Ayatollah Khamenei said, “It should be remembered that the international Zionist clique has repeatedly said that they will not allow Iran to develop nuclear weapons. They should know that if Tehran had decided to build a nuclear weapon, the Zionists would not have been able to resist it, even for forces greater than their own.
“In fact, nuclear weapons are just an excuse,” said Iran’s supreme leader. They do not want us to have any standard weapon. Because they are not willing to give Iran the right to defend itself. Source: Purse Today.
