Nord Stream 2 will not be completed in the next three to five years. Due to the sanctions imposed by the United States, it will be extremely difficult to implement the project.
Director of the Energy Research Center Alexander Kharchenko said this in a comment to RBC. “They will not return to this project for three to five years, and it is very difficult to predict whether they will return after that,” the expert said.
It should be noted that on February 22, the Americans imposed sanctions against the Fortuna barge, which is trying to complete the construction of the Russian gas pipeline. According to the statement of the US Treasury Department, which was published on the official website of the department, the restrictions affected the company “KBT-Rus”, which officially owns the ship.
The project is estimated at 9.5 billion euros. It is being implemented by Gazprom in alliance with the European companies Engie, Uniper, OMV, Shell, Wintershall. They pledged to finance Nord Stream 2 in total by 50%, that is, by 950 million euros each. Gazprom will provide the second half of the funds – 4.75 billion euros.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the gas pipeline must be commissioned in early 2021. However, later the dates were postponed to the end of the year.

As earlier OBOZREVATEL, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and his Polish counterpart Zbigniew Rau publicly appealed to US President Joe Biden with a request to stop the construction of Nord Stream-2 using any tools.
