In the Czech Republic, a patient with a covid was disconnected from a ventilator, the case is being investigated by the police

Czech criminal investigators are examining the circumstances of the death of an 82-year-old patient with the lung disease COVID-19, who died last Friday in a hospital in the town of Sušice in the Plzeň Region.

Doctors reportedly disconnected him from a pulmonary ventilator in the intensive care unit earlier than on a non-perspective day.

A well-informed source in the Právo daily confirmed that the police had started investigating the case as a suspicion of negligent death.

The head of the hospital, Jiří Vlček, denies any mistake. The doctors told him that they had followed exactly the established procedures for covid patients at the ICU.

“Of course, situations arise, not only in our country, when we disconnect the patient from the ventilator. It is certainly not because the ventilator needs someone else, but because with regard to the patient’s health and his prognosis, there is no longer staying on the device. effect, “ said Vlcek according to the Novinky.cz portal.

He also stressed that in these cases the consent of the family must be given and that detailed medical documentation is also available.

This explains that there is no point in extending the time the patient is connected to the ventilator. According to the head of the hospital “is, of course, a pity for every life.”

The director also confirmed that in the last month alone, about eight patients with covid died in the Sušice hospital, who were also disconnected from the ventilator. “They were older people who had other disabilities and the fan was no longer able to tighten them,” he added.

He added to the investigation that, according to his findings, the police received a complaint from a former employee of the hospital, who was fired. “I’m sure it’s still a long way from the recent rally in the management of the hospital I was part of,” he explained.
