The Iranian government website stated that an agreement was reached on Monday morning (Tehran time) during a meeting between the Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, Abdel Nasser Humti, and the Korean Ambassador to Iran, Ryu Jeong-hyun.
For his part, Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei said today, Tuesday, that one billion dollars of Iranian funds frozen in South Korea will be released.
Rabiei stressed that “Iran has reached understandings with South Korea and Japan, and that it is negotiating with Iraq and the Sultanate of Oman, to release the frozen Iranian funds” there.
In order to facilitate humanitarian trade with Iran, including medicines and medical equipment, South Korea is seeking to use a Swiss communication channel supported by the United States, which is the Swiss Agreement on Humanitarian Trade, whereby Iranian funds will be used to purchase the products of Swiss companies, according to what the Korean “Yonhap” agency reported.
