The number of serious coronavirus patients treated in hospital in the Czech Republic has risen to a record high, the Czech Ministry of Health reported, according to MTI.
The number of fatalities for the disease in the Czech Republic already exceeds 19,500. The number of active infections continues to grow, currently numbering 121,000.
Monday’s screenings revealed 11,233 new infections, some 2,300 more than a week ago. The epidemic spread index rose to 1.18, indicating an acceleration of spread. The official 100-point risk index is at 75 points, which is the upper limit of the fourth band. Precautions in the country continue to correspond to the most severe, the fifth band.
Based on screenings and laboratory tests, the experts found that the spread of the more dangerous British variant could be well demonstrated across the country, and that the infection was increasingly occurring among younger age groups.
Czech business circles are trying to put pressure on the government to ease precautions, open shops and services, the government decided after considering the situation on Monday night not to change the precautions for the time being. There is still an open debate about whether students from the lower grades of primary schools should be allowed back on their desks. There is no final decision yet, opinions are very divided.
