Coronavirus: a loophole allows some Belgians to know which vaccine they will receive

The flaw will not be corrected.

TThree different vaccines are currently on the market in Belgium: that of Pfizer, that of Moderna and that of AstraZeneca. The three have different efficacy rates (over 90% for the first two, around 60% for the third), but it will not be possible, however, to choose which one will be injected.

Some Belgians, however, will be able to know which vaccine they will receive. Singularly in the north of the country. Thus, according to the Newspaper, who has obtained confirmation of his information from the Agency for care and health (“zorg en gezondheid”), people who confirm their appointment on the internet after receiving their invitation by text or email can see which vaccine will be injected into them.

Although this flaw comes as a surprise to the authorities, it will not be corrected. “People who carefully follow the information about vaccination can guess which vaccine they will receive on the basis of their invitation letter,” said the spokesperson for the Agency for care and health. “On this letter is two pieces of information: a date for the first dose and a date for the second dose. Since the time required between doses differs between vaccines, it is possible to deduce which vaccine will be administered.
