“195 infections are data without specifying the address, which will be supplemented by the sanitary inspection” – assured the Ministry of Health.

47 people died from Covid-19, and 200 people died from its coexistence with other diseases. This means that the sum of deceased people who had SARS-CoV-2 infection increased to 42,436. The balance of coronavirus infections in Poland increased to 1,648,962.

Almost 1.4 million have recovered

There are 13,350 people infected with the coronavirus in hospitals, 1,347 of whom are under respirators. The ministry also announced that 25,885 beds and 2,585 ventilators have been prepared for patients with Covid-19.

161,407 people are in quarantine. The Ministry of Health also reported that 1,389,516 infected have recovered so far.

Tuesday’s number of new cases is almost double that reported on Monday. At that time, the ministry reported 3,890 new infections detected.

“Podlaska” mutation of the coronavirus

Last week, scientists from Białystok discovered the first case of the South African variant of SARS-CoV-2 in Poland.

– We were surprised that in addition to the traditional forms of the Sars-CoV-2 virus, we also detected mutations – emphasized Dr. Joanna Reszeć, head of the Academic Center for Pathomorphological and Genetic-Molecular Diagnostics.

MUB spokesman Marcin Tomkiel said in a statement that a total of 12 different variants of the SARS-Cov2 virus were identified, including the British variant (B.1.1.7), present in 18 people, and the first case of the South African variant in Poland (B.1.351). ). The university spokesman also mentions variants of Irish origin (B.1.1.74, B.1.1.160), Belgian (B.1.1.221) and Russian (B.1.1.141), as well as “new, as yet undescribed variants”.

– We expected these mutations to be there because the virus is changing. However, the fears that we have both the British variant, which is already found in our country, and the South African variant, which has not been described here so far, have been confirmed, concluded Dr. Reszeć.

A modular hospital for patients with Covid-19 was opened

The modular hospital was built on the premises of the Warsaw Military Medical Institute at Szaserów Street. During its opening on Tuesday, Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak made a speech.

As the head of the ministry said, “the concept of this facility is the result of the experience gathered by Polish medics” during last year’s mission in Italian Lombardy. This region was one of the regions hardest hit by the spread of SARS-CoV-2 at the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

– It is not a temporary hospital, but a modular one. There are five wards and twelve beds in each. We prepared them to help the most seriously ill with Covid-19, said Błaszczak.
