The validity of the FFP2 masks, or possibly two surgical masks at the same time, was postponed due to the nearly eight-hour session of the government at which the decision was made.
The head of the Ministry of Health explained that although the announcement of the obligation to wear FFP2 masks appeared much earlier, it was concluded that the official decision in this matter should not have been announced just a few hours before its entry into force.
Czechia introduces mandatory FFP2 masks
The minister specified that FFP2 masks or of similar quality will be mandatory in means of communication, at stops and platforms, as well as at airports. The obligation will also apply to stay in operating stores and service establishments, clinics and social care homes.
The obligation to put on this type of mask also applies to cars if they are used by people who do not live together on a daily basis.
The Czech government decided on Monday to donate around 7.5 million FFP2 masks to the poorest through food banks.
Blatny also announced that people who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be obliged to quarantine when they come into contact with an infected person. This change – as emphasized by the minister – “is to encourage people to undergo vaccinations”.
