State Duma Deputy Ruslan Balbek criticized the appeal of the Foreign Ministers of Poland and Ukraine Zbigniew Rau and Dmitry Kuleba to US President Joe Biden with a request to “put an end” to Nord Stream 2. He spoke about this in an interview with RT.
“Poland and Ukraine most of all criticized the Nord Stream-2 project, expressed confidence that it would not be completed … Unfortunately, Ukraine did not prove to be a reliable transit country, and in Poland for the last ten years there has been some kind of anti-Russian hysteria. And the fact that Germany declares the need for Nord Stream 2 indicates that the leaders of Western Europe clearly distinguish between politics and business, but the so-called Young Europeans have not yet learned this, ”the deputy said.
He also stressed that construction continues despite “threats from the United States and its most loyal allies.” “I don’t think that anybody’s letters to Biden will somehow affect the completion date. Russia will fulfill all the agreements it has signed. We have shown ourselves to be a reliable partner both in big business and in politics, ”he concluded.
The Federation Council also commented on the joint statement of the ministers. Sergei Tsekov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, noted that the position of Poland and Ukraine in relation to the project is understandable, since they announced it more than once, but in different forms.
According to Tsekov, Poland and Ukraine oppose cooperation between Russia and Europe, and also suffer from “an extreme form of hatred of Russia.” “They do not play a decisive role in the decisions that Europe makes. The decisive word belongs to Germany and a number of other influential European countries. Gas is badly needed in Europe. Nord Stream 2 is primarily an economic, commercial project, ”he concluded.
Earlier, Poland and Ukraine appealed to the US President with a request to “put an end” to the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. “We call on US President Joe Biden to use all the means at his disposal to prevent the completion of the project,” the statement of the ministers of the two countries says.
