At around 6:00 pm (local time), more than 1,200 public water systems were still affected by last week’s extreme weather events. 147 of these water systems, to which a total of more than 33,000 inhabitants are connected, are not yet operational at all.
Millions of Texans have been advised to boil water before use to ensure it is safe. In Houston, the largest city in Texas, the water can be used safely without boiling it first. Texas Air and Army have been deployed to distribute water. “About 3.5 million water bottles have already been delivered,” Texas Governor Greg Abbott said via Twitter.
Power failure
The freezing cold in Texas last week caused major problems for, among other things, the power and water supply. Millions of households were faced with power outages. In many areas overhead power lines broke through ice. The state has called on plumbers from other parts of the country to help with cracked pipe repairs.
The problems at the power plants have now been solved and most houses have electricity again.
