Belarus: Sick 16-year-old convicted of “violence against the militia”


16-year-old Mikita Załatarov was sentenced to five years in prison, informed Andrzej Poczobut, journalist and member of the Board of the Union of Poles in Belarus. A convicted teenager suffers from epilepsy. He told his parents that he was beaten every day.

According to a court in Gomel, a 16-year-old during the protest on August 10 threw a bottle of gasoline at one of the officers. The boy denied these accusations.

According to the boy’s father, the policemen came for the 16-year-old and his brother the day after the protest.

Mikita told his parents after his arrest that he was beaten every day. Prison authorities deny it. According to doctors, he was hospitalized due to an epilepsy attack.

There are protests in Belarus after the presidential elections in August. According to the opposition, they were forged by Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s team. So far 34,000 have been detained. people.

In total, according to the Wiasna human rights center, there are already 251 political prisoners in Belarus who have been imprisoned in connection with the presidential campaign in 2020 and the protests against the rigging of elections.
