The word “tennis” probably comes from the French tenez – “here you go, take it.” By the way, even the ancient Greeks and Romans had a game in which the ball was beaten by hand or stick. But the prototype of tennis is the game of “jidoko”, which existed in the 13th and 14th centuries in Italy, France and England: in it, a ball jumping over a net was hit with a glove, a wooden shield or a leather belt. Jidoko was played in halls and in open-air playgrounds. In the early 16th century, rackets began to be used in the game. Leather balls, which were played in those days, were stuffed with sawdust, rags, grass. They could only bounce off a hard surface. With the advent of rubber balls, it became possible to play on the grass. In 1872, the first club of this game was founded on the lawn of the Limington resort by the Portuguese Hoa Pereira, Frederick Haynes and Welsley Tomkinson. But British Army officer Walter Wingfield in 1873 developed a model court for the game of “spherical”. In December of the same year he published a brochure with the rules of the game “Spheristics, or lawn tennis”. And on February 23, 1874, Walter Wingfield received a patent for the court. With the development of the game, the conditions in which it took place changed, and the players’ clothes evolved a lot. It was not until the early 1930s that men were allowed to perform in shorts and women in short skirts. At the same time, Saudi Arabia, which has been broadcasting from Wimbledon for more than 20 years, has not yet shown a single match involving women. And the gallant French, however, did not allow the representatives of the beautiful half of humanity to perform at the French championship until 1928. Today, tennis is an Olympic sport and a favorite game of many celebrities.

The first session of the European Court of Human Rights, established in accordance with the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, drawn up in 1950 by the Council of Europe, opened in Strasbourg on 23 February 1959. The ECtHR consisted of 46 judges with a six-year term from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) is an international body whose jurisdiction extends to all member states of the Council of Europe (now 47 states) that have ratified the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, and includes all matters relating to interpretation and application of the Convention, including interstate cases and individual complaints. The ECtHR currently consists of 47 judges. They are elected for a term of nine years and cannot be re-elected. The work of the High Court on the protection of the norms of the above-mentioned Convention has been highly praised by the world community. But, as one judge joked, the ECtHR “fell victim to its own success” and, following the historic changes that struck Eastern Europe at the turn of the 1980s and 1990s, found it difficult to deal with the growing flow of complaints. In this regard, in late 1998, the court had to be significantly reformed to radically increase “productivity”.

In 1993, the Ruby programming language was created.
