More than 15 organizations have voluntarily withdrawn from the Nord Stream-2 project to avoid US sanctions.
As US State Department spokesman Ned Price said on Monday, this is stated in a report submitted at the request of the US Congress, Ukrinform reports.
“On Friday, the State Department submitted a report to Congress on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project, as required by the European Energy Security Act (PEESA), as amended,” Price said.
He clarified that the document identified the Russian company KVT-RUS as knowingly selling, renting or leasing the vessel Fortuna for the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. In particular, it was established that Fortuna was laying pipes at a depth of 100 feet or more.
“According to PEESA, as amended, KVT-RUS (as well as Fortuna, which owns this company, ed.), Are subject to US sanctions,” said a spokesman for the US State Department.
In addition, he noted, the report includes a list of organizations “that have themselves taken good faith steps to stop activities related to the Nord Stream 2 project during the relevant period.” These legal entities, accordingly, avoided US sanctions.
“This list includes more than 15 organizations and demonstrates that our legislative goals and actions have a remarkable effect,” Price said.
He also said that official Washington is holding constant consultations on energy security with European allies and partners. However, the State Department representative did not specify the details, including whether Ukraine is participating in the negotiations as the main transit country for gas from Russia to Europe.
“When it comes to our allies and partners, it is fair to say that they will not be surprised by our approaches or broad strategy in this regard, both on Nord Stream 2 and on energy security abroad,” said a US State Department spokesman.
It will be recalled that the United States has imposed new sanctions on participants in the Nord Stream-2 construction project.
Earlier, the German company refused to participate in the Nord Stream-2 project.
Also on the list of US sanctions is a ship that is building Nord Stream-2.
In addition, the United States has imposed sanctions on Turkey for cooperating with Russia.
Instead, Germany extended its permission to build Nord Stream-2, but the Danish company refused to participate in the project due to US sanctions.
It was reported that due to US sanctions, the Nord Stream-2 project was refused certification.
