The lifting of the restrictions will be done gradually, the approach being a “prudent” one, said the British Prime Minister, who stressed that the decision to remove the restrictions will be made depending on the evolution of COVID cases in Great Britain.
Here are the four steps in Boris Johnson’s plan.
First step:
- From March 8: reopening of schools
- From March 29, lifting additional restrictions
Starting March 29, outdoor meetings between six people or two families will be allowed. Outdoor sports, including football, golf and tennis, can also be resumed.
The prime minister said the lifting of the restrictions would take place at least five weeks apart to give the authorities enough time to collect the necessary data and alert the British to possible outbreaks of COVID.
Second step:
- From April 12: resumption of non-essential retail trade activities
Thus, care salons, gyms, museums, zoos and theme parks will be reopened to the public.
The rules of social distancing will remain valid for the activities inside, which means that only members of the same household can participate in them.
Third step:
- From May 17: the elimination of some rules of social distancing.
Thus, groups of up to 30 people will be able to meet outdoors in a public space or a private garden to attend weddings, baptisms or funerals.
Bars and restaurants will also be allowed to serve a limited number of customers inside.
The third plan made by the British government also aims to return the fans to the stadiums in England on May 17, if the health situation allows, with a capacity limited to a maximum of 10,000 people.
For indoor sporting events, it can be used up to half capacity, without exceeding 1,000 people.
Fourth step:
- From June 21, the removal of most restrictions
If the health situation allows, the British Prime Minister hopes to be able to implement the following measures:
- All limits on social contact should be removed. Moreover, the last sectors closed and affected by the crisis are to be reopened, such as nightclubs.
- Elimination of restrictions on major events and shows.
- All restrictions on weddings and other “life events” should be removed.
The UK is currently in its third toughest national lockdown, which began on January 6th. The number of cases of infection has exploded in this territory, especially due to the new COVID strain identified in the UK, which is much more contagious.
According to worldometers.info, the UK has recorded 4,126,150 cases of COVID and 120,757 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic and to date.
