During his active years as a former British diplomat, Charles Crawford served in Moscow, Warsaw and a number of other countries. Speaking for Kossuth Radio’s Sunday newspaper, the 67-year-old political communications consultant assessed the situation after the US election. According to Crawford, the policies of the technology companies and the Biden government are unfolding a whole exceptional totalitarian picture.
“Perhaps the most important international political event this year is the American election, which has brought really turbulent times to the United States. How do you see the process of power change? Joe Biden had a plan, and he promised this in his inaugural speech, that he would create national unity – which is much needed anyway, as there is a very deep division in American society. Do you think the first steps pointed in that direction?
– I never understood why a national unity should be proclaimed after an election, as the purpose of the election is precisely to show the differences between the parties. Strangely enough, when the Democrats won, they talked about national unity, but when it came to the victory of the Republicans, they were attacked on how they could win. What you see now is basically and merely part of the usual bad rhetoric. As far as the transition is concerned, it is obviously worrying, but it is part of a wider phenomenon that we can even see in the European Union. Modern civilization is one of the truly great achievements of the democratic world. The basic principle of this is the concept of loyal opposition. In other words, this means that the parliamentary counterpart may not be liked, it may be strongly disagreed with, but there is a common point, loyalty to the nation, to the political system. I see that the principle of loyal opposition is falling apart and being destroyed all over the world, but especially in the United States. Republicans as a whole are very easily branded as dangerous, terrorist, racist, reactionary, fascist. In America, the whole political language is becoming incredibly divisive. There is no excuse for someone to attack their political opponent in this way, and then when they win, they proclaim national unity! That makes no sense.
– Record numbers reach the number of Joe Biden’s decrees with which he began his presidency. Most of the regulations targeted Donald Trump’s actions and policies. It seems as if you want to erase everything, which is tied to the previous administration.
– Of course they do. I would not emphasize this element so much, but the fact that, in the case of the United States, a situation is beginning to emerge in which the President, after his victory, begins to behave as a kind of medieval compulsion. Or like a Soviet commissar issuing orders and telling the people what to do. Speaking of the presidential decree: think about the meaning of the word: it is a decree, a command, not a proposal, a regulation. The president orders how society should behave. Language alone! And the amount that these regulations came out so quickly … Of course, in a political sense, I mean, as a new administration takes office, trying to find its voice, it wants to make rapid progress. It is one of the measures he has promised, that is, he wants to deliver for his constituents. On the other hand, I find the deep-seated approach very anti-democratic. What happens in the United States can also happen in Europe. And there is something that makes me really laugh: the fact that I also deal with Poland, I worked there. Poland has been widely criticized by the European Union and human rights groups for wanting to reorganize their judiciary in their own discretion in favor of their country. In fact, this is exactly the same as what Biden is talking about, namely that more democratic elements should appear in the appointment of members of the Supreme Court.
– The comparison with Poland is very interesting and relevant, and if we look back at the United States, there is a dose of dissatisfaction on the part of those who voted for Joe Biden as the radical left. They have even demonstrated, demanding more radical measures, in a rather powerful, blatant way, those now to the left of Joe Bident and his administration.
“Of course it is, but it’s been a long time.” The fact is that those who are old enough to remember communism may also see it appear within some of today’s student movement. For example, there is Antifa. These are radical communist organizations. And obviously I don’t have to tell the Hungarians what happened in the II. after World War II, when the communist masses emerged and abolished democracy. And President Trump, frankly, made the astonishing mistake of responding to this kind of communist populism with a certain strange, say, conservative populism. The answer to populism may not be more populism, but authoritative statesman behavior. And the fact is that in many American cities, these extreme, radical elements, virtually communists, initiated violence, set fire to neighborhoods, destroyed private property, and overthrew statues. And to see that, after all, the party that covered them was chosen by the majority of Americans is a shocking and sad fact.
“He relied on them as voters.”
“Of course he relied on them, but that’s no excuse, and we don’t know what will happen.” I would be surprised if Joe Biden’s presidency lasts a long time, as he is old and it is not clear if he will be able to do his job in the long run. The question is who can infiltrate your administration. But it’s not just the government, there are the big tech companies – Facebook, Twitter and the like that look good enough to silence more conservative personalities they don’t like, while at the same time allowing extremist communist or Islamist elements to roar there. on their pages. We have come to a very strange, mixed radicalization that is happening both within the government and through these giant technology companies. And with regard to the latter, what is really dangerous is that they are able to influence us beyond our control, as they can control which pages we view on the Internet, some pages disappear through search engines in such a way that they never get in front of our eyes. They are manipulated in a way that is not revealed to us at all, namely in our own home and constantly. So a whole exceptionally totalitarian picture unfolds that can happen.
