Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, silver medalist of the 2016 Olympic Games in Greco-Roman wrestling, Zhan Beleniuk, said on his Facebook that after suffering COVID-19, he acquired an unusual ability.
“I discovered my ability to identify people who have had COVID-19 by the smell of their bodies. At first I noticed a specific smell of armpits, then (I am engaged in a contact sport, with profuse sweating in the process) I began to notice the same smell in my sparring partners who had had covid. For some reason it reminds me of garlic, ”wrote the 30-year-old athlete.
After this post, many social network users and journalists criticized Beleniuk, accusing him of lying and wanting to attract attention. Later, the wrestler made another publication on this topic.
“To be honest, I did not expect that my post about the consequences of covid that I experience after an illness would become such an informational occasion! Covid is a serious disease and can be reflected on the human body in absolutely different ways! ” – he noted.
According to the athlete, he just shared his feelings and did not expect such “incorrect” statements in his address. Beleniuk separately thanked those people who, in the comments and personal SMS, wrote about their changes after the illness, including those with symptoms like his. In conclusion, he wished everyone good health and wished to take care of himself.
On February 19, experts from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States determined that coronavirus infection manifests itself in different ways in patients and leads to serious consequences due to certain types of antibodies that can cause a specific reaction in the body.
Earlier, on February 17, American scientists from Northwestern University, together with doctors from the Northwestern Medicine network of clinics, conducted a retrospective study on the occurrence of joint and muscle pain that occurs in some patients with COVID-19.
