Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said Tehran could reach a 60% level in uranium purification, but stressed that there was no goal of making atomic weapons, Mediafax reports.

Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal, from which the United States withdrew in 2018, stipulates that Iran can purify uranium to 3.67%. Prior to the signing of the Nuclear Power Agreement, Iran had reached a 20% uranium purification level. The uranium used in the manufacture of nuclear bombs has a concentration of at least 90%.

“The level of uranium enrichment in Iran will not be limited to 20%. We will intensify it to whatever level the country needs. We could reach 60%. The Americans and the European parties to the Agreement have used inappropriate language against Iran. Iran will not “Our position will not change,” Ali Khamenei was quoted as saying by Iranian Public Television, quoted by Reuters. However, the supreme leader in Tehran stressed that Iran does not aim to manufacture atomic weapons.

The Joseph Biden administration said on Monday it wanted to consolidate the Iranian nuclear deal. “The United States remains committed to ensuring that Iran will never acquire nuclear weapons. Diplomacy is the best way to achieve this goal,” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a speech at the Conference on Disarmament. in Geneva.

“In collaboration with allies and partners, we will seek to expand and strengthen the Comprehensive Joint Action Plan (JCPOA) and address other areas of concern, including Iran’s destabilizing regional behavior and the development of ballistic missiles, “said Antony Blinken.

The Joseph Biden administration signaled last week that the United States would accept an invitation from the European Union to resume negotiations with Iran on the Iranian Nuclear Agreement (JCPOA).

President Joseph Biden has signaled that the United States could return to the Iranian nuclear deal, but called for additional clauses limiting Iran’s ballistic activities and Tehran’s regional influence.

But President Hassan Rohani said Iran would return to full compliance with its 2015 nuclear commitments only if the United States lifts sanctions.

Relations between the United States and Iran are strained due to Iran’s nuclear program and ballistic activities. Washington is unhappy with Iran’s influence over some Middle Eastern countries. Former President Donald Trump decided in 2018 to withdraw the United States from the Iranian Nuclear Agreement and re-impose sanctions. France, Britain, China, Russia and Germany maintain the Atomic Agreement with Iran.

The new Israeli ambassador to Washington, Gilad Erdan, has warned that Israel could dissociate itself from the Joseph Biden Administration’s strategy on Iran’s nuclear program if the United States returns to the 2015 Atomic Agreement.
