In hospitals in Slovakia, decisions have to be made as in Bergamo during the spring wave, or for a while in the Czechs, korkep.sk wrote. In Slovakia, there are roughly 800 ventilators available to patients, of which only 70 were available two weeks ago, and today, according to national data, 52.
There is a hospital where there is no free machine, elsewhere in the hallway some line up until they are occupied by incoming patients.
A doctor from Brezno, who was addressed by Hospodárske Noviny, said that if a patient between the ages of 50 and 80 were to be chosen, the more promising one was chosen. But they also try to take care of the other, in another institution.
According to press reports, there is also a shortage of medical staff skilled in the operation of ventilators: a machine requires an anesthesiologist / nurse, and there are not enough staff in hospitals with such qualifications. This is why the use of high-pressure respiratory therapy machines is widespread, requiring no special knowledge to operate, but they perform relatively well on the front lines. Another problem is that there are not only a few ventilators, but also intensive and Covid beds.
There was no violation of the law
According to the Office of Public Health, they did not break the law by allowing infected people to leave quarantine while shopping – read the article on Ujszo.com. Earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office stated that the provision exceeded the powers of the Public Health Office as defined by law, the measure in question is illegal and it is therefore proposed to repeal it. The withdrawal of the measure was also requested by the Trade Association. The Public Health Office also insists on a shopping lane reserved for the elderly, with only those over 65 to go shopping between 9am and 11am.
