The General Prosecutor’s Office of Armenia opened a criminal case against the leader of the opposition Movement for the Salvation of the Motherland Vazgen Manukyan in connection with his statement about the possibility of an uprising against the authorities. On Saturday, February 20, at a rally, the opposition candidate for prime minister said that one must be prepared to “instantly rise up to seize power.”
“A criminal case has been initiated under Article 301 of the Armenian Criminal Code (public calls for the seizure of power, violation of territorial integrity or violent overthrow of the constitutional order) in connection with the statements on Saturday by Vazgen Manukyan,” Advisor to the Prosecutor General Gor Abrahamyan told reporters (quoted by TASS).
A regular action was held in Yerevan today demanding the resignation of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The procession started from Komitas Avenue. Then the protesters went to the city center. According to TASS estimates, several thousand people took part in the action. The procession was held by the “Movement for the Salvation of the Motherland”.
