He said they would be the first to open schools. The requirement for people not to leave their homes without special necessity will remain in force until March 29. International travel will be banned until at least May 17.

The decision applies to England, where 85 percent of the UK’s population lives. The other three districts in the country – Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland – determine their own policy on the issue. However, they usually synchronize their measures with London.

There will be five weeks between the phases in the easing of restrictions, said the British Prime Minister. He justified the measure by the fact that it would take about four weeks for the effects of the previous stage of easing restrictions to manifest themselves.

The children will return to school in two weeks, but those wishing to go to a hairdresser, restaurant or pub will have to wait another two months, notes the Associated Press.

“There is no safe way to the UK with zero COVID or to a world with zero COVID. We cannot live indefinitely with constraints that weaken our economy, our physical and mental health and the life chances of our children. That is why the roadmap ( for the gradual easing of restrictions) is cautious but irrevocable. We are embarking on, I hope and believe, a one-way path to freedom, “Johnson told the British Parliament.

Britain has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic, with some 130,000 deaths. The pandemic led to the biggest collapse of the British economy in nearly three hundred years. Strict quarantine is currently in place in the country. Bars, restaurants, gyms, schools, hairdressers and all non-essential shops are closed.

Britain plans to ease tough measures against the March 8 pandemic

Boris Johnson said his government would not abandon the people and businesses that needed government assistance during the COVID-19 pandemic, Reuters reported.

During the pandemic, “the government will continue to do everything necessary to save jobs” across the country, Johnson said.
