The announced order to wear FFP2 masks will come into force not on Tuesday, but from Wednesday to Thursday at midnight, the Czech Minister of Health Jan Blatny announced. Masks made of other materials will not be accepted in stores and communications.
The validity of the FFP2 masks – possibly two surgical masks at the same time – was postponed due to the nearly eight-hour government meeting where the decision was made.
The head of the Ministry of Health explained that although the announcement of the obligation to wear FFP2 masks appeared much earlier, it was concluded that the official decision in this matter should not have been announced just a few hours before its entry into force.
The minister specified that FFP2 masks or of similar quality will be mandatory in means of communication, at stops and platforms, as well as at airports. The obligation will also apply to stay in operating stores and service establishments, clinics and social care homes.
The obligation to put on this type of mask also applies to cars if they are used by people who do not live together on a daily basis.
The government decided on Monday to donate around 7.5 million FFP2 masks to the poorest through food banks.
Blatny also announced that people who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be obliged to quarantine when they come into contact with an infected person. This change – as emphasized by the minister – “is to encourage people to undergo vaccinations”.
