The mother of a boy (11) who passed away after her household was left without electricity and heating in a mobile home in Texas has sued two energy companies and is seeking $ 100 million in damages for “gross neglect”.

Maria Pinheda said that the Electric Rehabilitation Council of Texas (ERCOT) and Enterprise Corp. were responsible for the death of her son Christian, who was found without signs of life on February 16 in his home, where he shared a bed with his three-year-old brother, Reuters reported.
More than four million people were left without electricity, and more than 20 died after a snowstorm paralyzed the state last week.

The lawsuit states that the American Federal Energy Regulatory Commission recommended in 2011 to prepare the electrical networks for the winter, and that the companies were completely unprepared when the power outage occurred last week.
“Christian froze to death, because the network was not a priority, and the electricity provider based its decisions on the basis of profit,” it is stated in the lawsuit of the district court in Jefferson.

The family of the deceased boy is from Connor, Texas, in the Houston suburb.
The company Enterddzi refused to comment on the lawsuit, but a spokesman said that the company was deeply affected by the loss of young life in that community.
Texas is the only U.S. state where all thermal power plants are privately owned. They are suspected of neglecting the network for years for the sake of higher profits, which has now proved fatal.
