He then moved closer to Alassane Ouattara’s declared opponent, Henri Konan Bédié, who formed a political alliance to block the RHDP in 2020. On December 23, everything accelerated. Learning that an arrest warrant is issued against him, Guillaume Soro cancels in extremis his return to Ivory Coast. The same day, the police invaded GPS HQ and arrested its supporters. Arrests that continue in the weeks that follow. A total of 19 people are behind bars, including 5 pro-Soro deputies and two brothers of the former rebel leader.

Prosecuted for the matter of his Marcory residence and for an alleged attempt to “ breach of state authority », Guillaume Soro denounces a political cabal to prevent him from running for president. On April 22, the African Court of Human Rights ordered Côte d’Ivoire to suspend the arrest warrant and release his companions on bail. Six days later, the Ivorian courts sentenced him to 20 years.
