A worrying prediction from the chief physician of England, Chris Whitey, that the infections from the new coronavirus and the deaths will be a problem for the next winters in Britain, even with extensive vaccinations.
“I think people should see it that way; with vaccinations the rates (of infections and deaths) will fall but we will not get rid of the virus,” Whitey told a news conference.
“It’s something we need to look at in the long run and in my opinion it is likely to be a problem in the winter, for the next few winters,” he added.
For his part, the British government’s top scientific adviser, Patrick Valance, said that it may be necessary to use the mask next winter, in some cases.
“Maybe next winter we need to have things like using a mask, in some situations,” he noted.
On Sunday, US infectious disease specialist and adviser to President Joe Biden, Anthony Fauci, said Americans may be wearing masks as early as 2022, but measures to stem the spread of Covid-19 will be loosened as the number of vaccinations.
