We will not respond forcefully to Iran in order not to destabilize the

Tehran held responsible for the actions of its followers who were attacking the Americans in Iraq

The United States warned, on Monday, that it would hold Iran “responsible” for the actions of the allies of the Islamic Republic in Iraq, but stressed that it would not seek to escalate the conflict, according to Al-Arabiya Net.

In detail, the US State Department spokesman, Ned Price, said hours after the launch of missiles at the US embassy in Baghdad, “We will hold Iran responsible for the actions of its followers who attack the Americans” in Iraq, explaining that US forces will avoid contributing to an “escalation in Iran’s interest.”

“The attacks on our embassy in Baghdad are dangerous, and we have the right to defend ourselves,” said the spokesman for the US Defense Department (Pentagon), John Kirby, Monday, in a press briefing.

Kirby said that “investigations are still ongoing about the Erbil attack” in Iraqi Kurdistan, where US forces’ positions in the city were bombed with 14 rockets.

The spokesman held, “Iran is responsible for its militia in Iraq and its involvement in the repeated attacks,” explaining that “any reaction from us will be in coordination with the Iraqi government.”

He pointed out that “Iran’s enrichment of 60 percent of uranium appears to be a threatening method,” adding that “our priority is the release of the American hostages in Tehran.”

On Monday evening, Katyusha rockets targeted the vicinity of the US embassy in the Green Zone in Baghdad.

The Security Media Cell announced that “the missiles that targeted the Green Zone were launched from Al-Salam neighborhood (Al-Topji).”

The cell indicated that “damage was caused to four civilian vehicles (cars) as a result of rockets falling on the Green Zone.” It confirmed that missile launchers were found by the Baghdad Operations Command units.

On the other hand, Iraqi media confirmed that smoke rose from inside the US embassy, which is located in the Green Zone. After the attack, warning sirens sounded inside the “third unification base” at the American embassy, with helicopters flying overhead.

This is the third attack in a week that targets Western diplomatic, military or commercial facilities in Iraq, after months of relative calm.

In Iraq, the US embassy and military bases housing US soldiers are being targeted, the latest of which was the Erbil attack, which left civilians dead and a number of wounded, including an American soldier.

The United States accuses pro-Iranian Iraqi militias of firing rockets at the US embassy, bases hosting US forces and other facilities in Iraq.
