The US Supreme Court on Feb. 22 has moved to pave the way for New York City prosecutors to have access to tax returns and other financial records of former President Donald Trump.
According to Reuters, the US Supreme Court justices rejected Trump’s proposal to halt the transfer of the former president’s tax file to Manhattan County prosecutor Cyrus Vance.
The move is said to be the culmination of a protracted legal war, involving former President Trump’s tax and financial income issues. This is also considered a victory for prosecutor Cyrus Vance.

Vance has sought to investigate the former president’s tax filings since 2019, and has filed a subpoena from the accounting firm Mazars for access to the personal records of Trump’s companies. Mazars vowed to comply with the subpoena, but Trump sued it again to prevent the tax records from being released.
On October 7 last year, a lower court in New York ordered Mazars to comply with the subpoena and hand over the former President’s documents to the Manhattan county prosecutor.
Mr. Trump’s lawyer has not yet commented on the court’s ruling.
