Yonhap firm on February 23 quoted US State Department spokesman Ned Price as saying that the US will continue to nurture the “diamond quartet” to deal with many challenges in Indo-Pacific, including China.
Mr. Price emphasized that the Quad, comprising India, the US, Japan and Australia, will play a central role in the region.
“Quad is an example of the US and some of its closest partners working together for the good of the free and open Indo-Pacific. Therefore, we nurtured by deepening cooperation in traditional areas including maritime security, while working closely with partners to cope with the challenges, ”he said. Price stated.
Among those challenges are the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change, the spokesman said. The remarks came after US Secretary of State Antony Blinken had an online meeting with his counterparts representing countries in the diamond quartet and the parties agreed to hold ministerial talks at least once a year.
One of the central roles of the diamond quartet is countering China, Mr. Price said.
“We will work closely with our allies and partners. That is exactly what we are doing with the diamond quartet, with our allies and partners in Europe and Indo-Pacific to approach China from a power standpoint, ”said Price.
