The United States has passed 500,000 deaths related to the corona pandemic. President Joe Biden now believes the country must stand together to “fight like the United States.”
– Today we mark a really gloomy and heartbreaking milestone, said US President Joe Biden.
Biden says the number of deaths in the corona pandemic is more than the number of American soldiers who died in the First and Second World Wars and the Vietnam War combined. He asks the country to stand together against the pandemic.
– I know how it is, said a distinguished Biden in a speech to the nation on Monday with reference to the many tragedies in his own family. Biden’s first spouse and their one-year-old daughter died in a car accident in 1972. In 2015, his son Beau died of brain cancer.
Biden urged that Americans not be blown away by the numbers and “see life as statistics.”
– I ask everyone to remember those we have lost and the bereaved. I also ask that we continue to be vigilant, keep a social distance from each other, wear a face mask and say yes to the vaccine, Biden said.
After the speech, a minute’s silence was observed outside the White House, where 500 candles were lit in memory of the many dead. Biden was accompanied by his wife Jill and Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff.
Earlier in the day, the flag was flown at half-staff at the White House and other public buildings in the country to mark the enormous loss of life. The United States has more people infected and dead associated with pandemics than any other country.
– As a nation, we can not and should not let this continue. We must put an end to the policies and misinformation that divide families and communities. We must fight together as one people, as the United States, Biden said.
