The Swedish prosecutor’s office has charged the 47-year-old citizen of the country with spying for Russia. He collected and passed information to a Russian diplomat for a monetary reward, according to the Swedish prosecutor’s office.
“While working as a consultant at the previous place of work, he received materials in order to provide information to a foreign state, in this case – Russia,” – said prosecutor Mats Lyngkvist.
The spy was detained during one of the meetings with the Russian diplomat. Then the accused received from him 3.3 thousand dollars. The prosecutor stressed that the money received by the accused shows how much Russia appreciated the information received.
According to the supervisory authority, the Swede illegally transferred information from work computers to his personal, and then to USB drives. He also photographed some materials from the screen of a working computer.
The prosecutor’s office believes that the actions of the accused could threaten the country’s security.
At the same time, the SVT agency clarifies that the man has been passing information about the Volvo and Scania car companies to the Russians for several years. He was arrested back in February 2019, but charges were brought only two years later. The detainee faces 6 years in prison.
Let us remind you that on February 5 the Russian Federation expelled diplomats from Germany, Poland and Sweden for participating in actions in support of Alexei Navalny.
In response, these countries announced the expulsion of Russian diplomats.
