Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a religious decree according to which female characters in cartoons are supposed to wear a headscarf.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei issued a fatwa that says all female cartoon characters must wear hijab. This was reported by Alarabiya News with reference to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
One of the subscribers to the Iranian leader’s Telegram page asked him about the hijab for the drawn characters.
“In principle, in such a hypothetical situation, wearing a hijab is not required by itself. However, violation of the ban on wearing it cannot remain without consequences. Therefore, the requirement to wear a hijab should be observed in animated films,” Khamenei said.
Fatwa is a decision on any issue based on the principles of Islam and the precedents of Muslim legal practice. Such a regulation is not legally binding.
Recall that after the establishment of the Islamic Republic in 1979, women in Iran were obliged to wear a headscarf and cover their entire body.
