German football club Borussia Dortmund agreed Monday to pay a fine of 75,000 euros, after its players violated the rules of health and hygiene in the local league during celebrations on the team bus that followed the “derby” victory over its host Schalke in stage 22.
The Bundesliga had made a decision to fine Dortmund after publishing pictures of its players celebrating Saturday on the team bus without masks or observing the rules of social distancing. Without hesitation, Dortmund agreed to pay the fine, and this coincided with the issuance of an apology the next day (Sunday), at a time when Germany has been in a state of closure since November due to the repercussions of the outbreak of the Corona virus.
The League also raised the issue of allowing about 200 fans to gather outside the club’s exercise stadium in order to receive the bus that was carrying the players and the coaching staff upon its arrival in Dortmund after winning a quarter-final victory in the “Derby” of the industrial city of Ruhr over its arch-neighbor Schalke, to advance to sixth place.
The quartet was alternated by the international scorer, the Norwegian Erling Haaland (two goals), the Englishman Jaidon Sancho and the Portuguese Rafael Guerrero.
“There is no doubt that the derby is a special match. However, the club has a responsibility to control and monitor compliance with the laws,” the league’s statement said.
“All matches must be held in accordance with the applicable medical hygiene concept, including arrival and departure,” he added.
On the other hand, Dortmund expressed his understanding and cooperation, stressing that he would consult with the police and the relevant authorities in order to prevent such scenes from occurring in the future.
