The Association of Romanian Automobile Manufacturers (ACAROM) estimates that Dacia, owned by French Renault and American Ford, is expected to produce almost 500,000 vehicles in Romania this year.
The Romanian automotive industry has also been adversely affected by the global shortage of semiconductors, but production is expected to increase this year as more people demand coronavirus vaccination, so they expect life to slowly return to normal, said Adrian Sandut, Acarom is secretary-general of the Romanian business daily Ziarul Financiar.
Citing the article, MTI writes that according to the Romanian automotive organization, if there is no new crisis and no need to stop production, in 2022 there is a good chance that it will produce more than half a million vehicles at the two manufacturers ’plants in Romania.
Vehicle production fell 10.67 percent last year after Dacia and Ford assembled a total of 438,107 vehicles at its plants in southern Romania. Dacia was hit hard by the coronavirus epidemic, production fell 25 percent, and the company assembled 259,099 cars, about 90,900 less than the previous year. Ford produced 179,008 cars, which is 39,000 units, an increase of 27 percent compared to 2019. Acarom estimates that Romanian vehicle manufacturers’ sales fell by about 17 percent last year, from € 30 billion to € 25 billion.
Sandu also said the association is looking for new investors in the Romanian automotive industry, citing as an example the need for a company to produce aluminum rims.
