The Dutch former showmaster Frank Masmeijer has to serve the rest of his prison sentence in Belgium for the time being. The judge has rejected his request for parole.
The 59-year-old presenter, who is known for the popular television program, among other things Dinges 1980s, Belgium is serving a nine-year prison sentence for cocaine smuggling. He has served a third of his sentence and was therefore able to ask for parole. But the judge finds that Masmeijer has not submitted a good rehabilitation plan to stay on the right path. Masmeijer can try again from the end of October.
He is disappointed by the decision of the judge, he tells the RTL5 program Crime Desk. “It is very difficult. You have to listen of course. You have to wait and see what they say about it, what they think of it ”, says Masmeijer. “It must be granted to you.”
Over the phone, he says in the program that he is currently already at large because of the corona measures. “I have been given a break. I can go wherever I want. I don’t have any conditions. ”
The former quizmaster was sentenced on appeal in 2019 to nine years in prison and a fine of 90,000 euros for his involvement in the import of a large consignment of drugs in 2014. The Belgian Court of Appeal gave him a higher sentence than the judge had first imposed. , because Masmeijer played a greater role in drug smuggling than he himself stated.
The fallen presenter also made violent threats and it turned out that he had stolen 32,000 euros from someone in this drug case by stealing that person’s pin code.
