In his first appearance as ex-president next Sunday, Donald Trump is expected to announce that he is the Republicans’ supposed candidate for the 2024 presidential election.
This is stated by close associates of Trump who the newspaper Axios spoke to.
According to the newspaper, Trump’s advisers will meet him at his luxury home, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, next week. There, they are expected to develop a plan for the ex-president ahead of the upcoming midterm elections in the United States in 2022.
Trump’s advisers claim that his power within the Republican Party goes deeper and wider than ever. And that no force can dampen him.
“Like the 2016 election, we will take on Washington again,” a Trump source told Axios.
Disagreement among Republicans
At the same time, several big names in the Republican Party have cut ties with the former president, and Trump was heavily criticized during the Supreme Court indictment in which seven Republicans voted with the Democrats for a fall.
Republican minority leader Mitch McConnell also attacked Trump after the Senate indictment.
McConnell then said that Trump was responsible for the storming of the Capitol on January 6 this year. Trump, in turn, responded by calling him a “boring, grumpy, political jerk.”
