The Algerian government spokesman, Omar Belhaimer, said yesterday that his country is witnessing a “focused and vile electronic war aimed at undermining the elements that constitute the secret of Algeria’s strength and the distinguished cohesion relationship between the army and the nation”, while thousands demonstrated in a peaceful march yesterday in the center of the capital.
The spokesman added, in a speech published on his official Facebook page, on the occasion of the second anniversary of the popular movement, that “the enemies of Algeria tried to invest maliciously in the movement,” indicating that the cohesion between the army and the people remained steadfast in the face of all shocks, and failed attempts to penetrate it and the Nile. From its strength, during the February 22, 2019 movement, which marked its second anniversary by seeking and aspiring to build a new Algeria.
He pointed out that Algeria has launched the train of change and renewal towards the establishment of a representative democracy – participatory and effective, based on developing the system of rights and freedoms and keeping pace with the technological revolution, despite the circumstance and the exceptional situation that the country and the world are going through due to the Corona epidemic.
Balhaimer said, “This national effort, which translates the commitment of the President of the Republic to bring about radical changes and qualitative transformations, in order to establish the rule of law and uproot the roots of corruption has basically culminated in a new constitution that strengthened freedoms and rights, especially the rights of women and youth.”
He pointed out that these gains were strengthened by the launch of the preparation process for the preliminary draft review of the organic law for elections, and a presidential pardon for a group of detainees, as part of the efforts to establish the climate of calm and the outstretched hand initiative to build the state of right and law that the movement demanded two years ago.
Thousands of Algerians demonstrated in a peaceful rally, yesterday, in the center of the capital, on the second anniversary of the popular movement.
The Algerian police deployed heavily in major areas in the center of the capital, and tried to repel the demonstrators who were advancing towards the Central Post Square, which was known to be a stronghold of the Harakis.
Witnesses said that hundreds of demonstrators advanced from Al-Wiam and Al-Shuhada squares, towards the Central Post Square. The demonstrators chanted slogans known in previous rallies, such as a radical change of the regime and building a civil state.
Political activists called, on social media, to take advantage of the second anniversary of the popular movement to return to the street, as the prominent human rights activist, Abdul-Ghani Badi, wrote on his official account on the eve of the movement’s anniversary: “We are waiting for human torrents, until the liberation of the homeland … the whole country.” .
