Netherlands: investigation opened after falling debris from a Boeing cargo plane


Dutch police have opened an investigation after debris from a Boeing 747 400 type cargo plane fell two days earlier, which injured two people in the south of the Netherlands, she told the Netherlands on Monday. ‘AFP.

The incident occurred on Saturday, the same day that happened in Colorado, where another Boeing model, a 777, with 241 people on board, had to make an emergency U-turn after its right engine burned. On Monday, all types of Boeing 777s equipped with the involved engine were immobilized.

In the Netherlands, it is a cargo plane, a Boeing 747 400 type which encountered difficulties a few seconds after taking off on Saturday afternoon from Maastricht-Aachen airport, air traffic control detecting “An engine fire”, according to a statement from the airport authorities on Sunday.

“We are conducting a technical investigation. So we are going to see if there is any responsibility involved in everything that happened. The Boeing company will be questioned, ”said the spokesperson for the Dutch police, who preferred to remain anonymous.

The aircraft, which was bound for New York and was carrying goods, including pharmaceuticals, finally made an emergency landing at Liège airport in neighboring Belgium.

Dutch media then disseminated photos circulating on social networks of debris on the ground in Meerssen, near Maastricht, including one of them planted in the body of a car.

“I am as shocked as all the inhabitants” of the town, the mayor of Meerssen, Mirjam Clermonts-Aretz, who witnessed part of the scene told AFP on Monday.

The latter, who lives near the airport, explained to have “heard the detonations coming from the plane”, specifying that “very many parts” fell.

According to the mayor, at least two people were injured by the falling debris, an “elderly lady and a child”, the first victim having spent a night in hospital observation.

Maastricht-Aachen Airport, based in the Netherlands, said it “regrets that this has happened” and is trying to make contact with those injured.
