Ukraine and Poland are asking the United States to prevent the construction of the pipeline
The Foreign Ministries of Ukraine and Poland in a joint appeal called on Biden not to allow the completion of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and Poland, Dmytro Kuleba and Zbigniew Rau, appealed to US President Joe Biden to stop the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. Their appeal on Monday, February 22, was published in Politico.
“We urge US President Joe Biden to use all means at his disposal to prevent the project from being completed,” the diplomats said.
Ukraine and Poland warn against completing construction of the pipeline. The statement said the West “cannot afford to back down in the face of blackmail that contradicts everything we stand for.”
“If the project is successful, Russia can try to convince the Ukrainian public that the West is indifferent to its own principles and, ultimately, to the security and prosperity of Ukraine,” the foreign ministers said.
Speaking about Germany’s support for the project, they said they respected Berlin’s right to express its views.
The foreign ministers of the two countries noted that they had long warned about the dangers associated with this project. The statement said they were heard in the US Congress, which insisted on measures to stop the pipeline.
They also noted that the United States-led West could not afford to retreat in the face of Russian blackmail.
We will remind, before that Kuleba declared that economic inexpediency of the Nord Stream-2 project testifies that the gas pipeline is necessary for the Russian Federation for undermining of safety of Ukraine and Europe as a whole.
