The current situation in Kosovo was perhaps best described by a US official. Namely, the American ambassador to Pristina, Philip Costnet, complained to the State Department that the employees of the embassy in Kosovo are in hell. In the dispatch to the authorities, which leaked to the public, he presented a number of problems due to which, as he assessed, the embassy in Pristina is on the verge of shooting.
A series of problems
As reported by the Politico website, and reporter Nahal Tosi reported on her Twitter account, the American embassy complains about the coronavirus and the lack of vaccines, but also about the infrastructure, polluted air, stray dogs, overtime work and more, which, as they said, leads even to bad interpersonal relationships among employees.
– The embassy in Pristina in Kosovo is approaching the shooting point. Even before Kovida 19, Kosovo was severely affected by air pollution, little green space, little chance for outdoor activities and poor infrastructure – part of the aforementioned dispatch signed by Kosnet.
As they say, they don’t even have enough staff, so they deal with tasks outside their duties, and the balance between business and private life has disappeared, so one of the employees in the survey said that “this has a serious negative impact on health.” They add that all this, among other things, is manifested by panic attacks, chest pain, loss of sleep …
The embassy also mentioned problems related to coronavirus and vaccination, both of the local population and the employees of the US Embassy. – About 20 percent of the employees in the embassy fell ill with kovida 19. The vast majority of them are locally employed staff, which is an indicator of ineffective disease control in Kosovo – it is written in the document that leaked to the public.
The pandemic devastated everything
In his dispatch, the US ambassador also assessed that Kosovo is behaving like a country free of kovid 19, although, as they say, it was devastated by a pandemic. – In the US, if you don’t wear a mask in public, you could end up in a viral video. But, in Kosovo, you will most likely end up on social networks because you are wearing a mask – it is stated in the dispatch.
Zoran Milivojevic: The dispatch was not accidentally in public
As career diplomat Zoran Milivojevic estimates for Kurir, this is a gloomy testimony about the real situation in Kosmet and the right assessment of the environment in which that society operates. – The question is who is in favor of recognizing such a society. The situation described is really desperate and can hardly be presented as sustainable. I have the impression that this dispatch was not accidentally released to the public, but that it is a kind of unofficial pressure that solutions should be sought by compromise. It is meaningless to advocate that something like that can function as an independent state – Milivojevic points out.
